This is news about a call for running and hosting a HACKATHON event. The new European Water and Innovation Community EIT Water is challenging partners in Europe to host and organise hackathons. The water world needs new perspectives, challenging and creative solutions and EIT wants to boost and fast-track promising early-stage startups. EIT? Yes, check it out. The HACKATHON pilot aims to harness bottom-up Water Marine and Maritime innovations by uniting cross-sector stakeholders to co-develop early-stage solutions for water challenges. The HACKATHON pilot supports hosting thematic, innovation-oriented regional HACKATHONS designed to accelerate early-stage solution development for urgent Water, Marine and Maritime (WMM) challenges. This pilot supports the organisation of up to 8 thematic regional hackathons that spark creativity, encourage collaboration across sectors and countries, and fast-track the development of promising early-stage ideas. Through these events, participants will work together across disciplines and borders, transform challenges into innovative Proofs of Concept (PoCs), and shape ideas with real potential for future development, validation, and business creation. EIT strongly encourages fresh perspectives, whether in how challenges are framed, how teams collaborate, or how solutions are developed. The goal is to create a vibrant space where ideas can quickly evolve into tangible outcomes. Each hackathon is expected to gather at least 30 participants across 6 teams in a one-day, high-energy format, designed to act as a fast-track innovation engine focused on one or more of EIT Water’s key strategic objectives: Protecting and restoring marine and freshwater ecosystems Improving water efficiency, recycling, and circularity Strengthening resilience to climate-related challenges and external threats Funding & Key Dates Grant Award per event: €15,000 Application deadline: 15 June 2026 Notification of results: 1 July 2026 If you have any questions, please reach out to: Kirk Johnson EIT Water Project Officer 📧 eitwater@au.dk
